We spent my very last Friday off (at least while we're out East) visiting Monticello. About 2 1/2 hours south of D.C., the drive into the mountains of Virginia is beautiful. And the house and surrounding grounds are no less stunning. I loved the gardens and the hike back down the mountain, but I very most loved the fact that we got a "private family tour". The special "family tours" are designed for children (I had read about these ahead of time) and apparently no one else knew about them because we were the only ones who signed up - so we got a private guide who took us room-by-room with a kid-friendly speech... she even sat in the middle of the floor with the girls in each room so they could chat all about Thomas Jefferson and the special things they saw in each room - AWESOME. See all the fun photos HERE.
