Here's the thing...
x
A kid will say they want this, want that, just want. Last year it was the Barbie Dream House (BDH). The BDH runs about the rate of a mid-sized mortgage payment and comes fully equipped with finer china and nicer furnishings than we've had our entire marriage. The toilet also flushes and the doorbell rings. Did I mention the elevator?
x
And so the BDH found its way down the chimney (miraculously) and into a pretty pink bedroom that our children basically use as a closet and that's about it (since they certainly will never be caught SLEEPING in there!)
x
And then, one summer day, my kind Aunt takes the children garage sale-ing and they come upon a fold-apart 1980s Barbie cottage that equates to a "trailor" sitting next to the mansion that is Santa's miracle of 2009.
x
And because children are funny little creatures who truly don't know what they actually "want" the girls have since moved Barbie and her entire family into the trailor while the mansion sits empty, except the jacuzzi which wouldn't fit in the trailor.
x
And the lesson for 2010: My children have no idea what they really "want" and therefore I shall decide for them. And I have decided they want college savings bonds and new socks. (Kidding...kind of).

I love this, so true of all of us when you think about it. I have a Wii Fit that I was going to give my left leg for (which my mother-in-law performed her own Christmas miracle to get) that sits in the living room used only when I feel guilty about it.
