This is the bridge we walked over weekly the summer we lived in Mexico. This is the bridge we crossed our girls over the summer we visited, hoping to return often.

Just over this bridge on Saturday a young American couple was driving with their baby in the backseat and were gunned down. If you didn't see the story and photos all over the news, you can search for them. But be prepared for a bloody, heart-wrenching scene as police carry away a tiny baby who has just witnessed the murder of her parents. Why.

This is the bridge my friend's son was driving near on Saturday, as he saw the couple drive by. This is the bridge that their car crashed near, as the ringing of gun shots hung in his ears... As he thought about his own infants at home in this city, about his beautiful wife. He does not have peace any longer, thoughts of this day are haunting him.

This is the bridge my friend crosses to pick up donations she receives from KC. Used clothes mostly, sometimes toys or other little odds and ends. For now they mostly need prayers, and hope.

Please send hope to Juarez. Send a prayer for peace. Send a prayer for strength of our friend and many like her who raise their children on the streets of the most dangerous city in the world. Pray for our leaders and their's, that they will see clearly the path to peace.

In addition to your invaluable prayers, I will be compiling boxes of hope to send to our friend and the other women in her community who are working to keep the community going. These women lead area children in VBS, conduct Sunday School, coordinate scholarships from KC for children in need, and raise their own children and grandchildren. These women have been holding nightly prayer vigils for their city. For hope.

I don't know what a box of hope looks like. If your prayers lead you to some ideas, please share. If your prayers lead you to action, please contact me for shipment information.

So tragic. I will most certainly be praying... and good luck with the hope boxes...
