In Finland, on Christmas Eve, everyone goes to the cemetery to light candles on the graves of their loved ones. Isn't it beautiful...the idea and the picture?

Our friends living in Finland (who blog about it HERE) shared this and I've been thinking about next year and doing something similar, maybe a battery-operated tea-light so as not to break any cemetery rules, supposing there are such rules.

Its probably a bit morbid to some, but I think its sacred. I don't believe the candles are lit for the dead, but a rememberance for the living. A rememberane that there is hope beyond death, the hope that is born on Christmas.

I like this and have been trying to think of a way to do something in memory of my grandpa at Christmas. I also want to hear about your advent idea.

Thanks for the shout out! Ben and I would like to continue this tradition in the US as well. It's such a nice way to remember family.
