A 'surprise' awaited them if they behaved at Aunt Jami's. Once we were informed by the authorities that they had indeed been 'good girls' we told them the suprise was (drum roll please) a trip to the movies.

"At the theater!?!" Carolyn said with eyes WIDE open.
x
"YES!!!!" It is so fun to be a mom sometimes, like when you get to spill the beans on a good surprise.

We saw UP. Carolyn saw the whole thing, Jules saw all but three bathroom visits worth (each less productive than the one before). The 'movie' surprise was a success.

After baths we cuddled up in bed for another 'surprise'...Harold and the Purple Crayon, the last of the new books B and I planned for his time away to 'spice things up' in their little preschool lives (I know, new books, aren't we the raddest parents in town?) Carolyn totally flipped, having read this in school once before. She was so thrilled, in fact, that she made me 're-surprise' her a second time so she could enjoy the reaction again.

And finally we got a text from B that we could call. He was just getting off an overnight train to somewhere I can't pronounce. He is feeling better (suffered a bit of a bug after getting too brave with dinner one night, not sure what he ate but it didn't treat him right). He is going non-stop to maximize his time and I am so glad he's my husband.
