One of our favorite new summer traditions is Thousand Hills. We travel with friends a few hours out of KC and spend several days in nature complete with close racoon encounters, s'mores and boat rides. This year some rain meant a trip into town where Julia found her baptism cross, and we enjoyed local fare in lovely Kirksville, MO. But mostly it's about the peace and quiet, the smell of boat gas in the morning, and a break from makeup and technology for a time.
