When the alarm sounded in the darkness I felt a warm tiny body huddled against my arm...Jules. Her soft breathing is such a justification to press snooze. After three snoozes I had to climb from the warm covers to face Monday straight in the ugly face.

C laid on the couch as I prepped the left-over birthday cake and soup for my lunch. She had dozed off and could not be stirred for goodbye kisses. Just as I opened the door to leave she said a soft "Mommy!?!"..."Don't forget about my lunchbox, ok?"

For an additional $4 per week you can stay at Preschool for an extra hour for lunch. It is C's most sought-after dream at the moment. She asks about it weekly. She imagines the joy of sitting down to PB&J with the other lucky littles as they discuss the merits of Hannah Montana or the ingredients in Cheetos. It only happens on Wednedsays. This Wednedsay it will be her first Lunch Bunch and she needs a lunch box, ASAP.

Just as the barista at the Starbucks drive-thru was learning my name and would proclaim my order over the drive-up speaker before I had to say anything (I was like the Norm of Starbucks)...my gift card reserve ran out and I realized I may have defeated the Starbucks addiction by indulging it until the point of overload. So I drove to work uneventfully and likewise fulfilled a day of uneventful duties in Cubeville.

The first news of the day, as I walked into the kitchen following the obligatory Cubeville reservations, was the assault on Carolyn's head by a young boy who had to spend a considerable amount of time on the classroom bean bag as a consequence, which seemed to satisfy her - and me I suppose. Nothing says "consequence" like a bean bag... or at least I would regret it.

Remembering the earlier promise, we loaded up to head to Walmart in search of a lunch box. Our Walmart is perilous to say the least. My parents saw a hold-up in the parking lot once. Anna saw it too, she tells the story well, you should ask her about it sometime.

Seeing as its the middle of January and nothing exciting is happening besides the howling winds and Jayhawks winning again-and-again, the lunch box selection was weak. There was Hannah Montana, Cars and Purple. She chose Hannah. That is, until the makeup section provided a wide variety of much cuter, pinker, makeup/PB&J holders that more than replaced the Hannah option, so we ditched Ms. Montana right there on the makeup aisle and made a B-line for the check-out.

The rest of the night was more of the same, but ended with me rambling, the way I do from time-to-time.

PS - The purple dresses were winners....and they were only $20!!!

I adore those purple dresses, Katie! They look so decadent on them! Stunning!

P.S. Going to ask Anna about the Wal-Mart holdup!
